Can You Use Drugs Without Abusing Drugs?

There are many instances in which a person might want to use drugs. Sometimes things may seem boring and they cannot find anything else to do. Sometimes drugs are what everyone is doing, and they want to fit in or be cool by doing what everyone else is doing. Sometimes, there is a history of drug use, and so someone continues to do what they have always done. Often, there are family members that have abused drugs in the past, so someone uses drugs because their family members have. Also, it is common to see someone using drugs because they want to escape from their lives. They might see nothing that they can change about their lives and be unhappy with the way their lives are. If they cannot see any way to change their lives, they might want to use drugs in order to feel better about the things they cannot change.

No matter the reason, sometimes drug use escalates into drug abuse, and sometimes it does not. It is possible to use drugs without abusing them, even though it is not a good idea. Alcohol, for one, is a drug, and it is used often without abuse. People must always be careful because it is easy for drug use to turn into drug abuse.

Many times people will be confused about what exactly is drug use and abuse. If a person does not know that they are abusing drugs, they might thing that they are only using them and therefore they do not have a problem and do not need to seek help for drug addiction.

There are several key differences to keep in mind. When someone is using drugs and not abusing them, there are going to be differences.

Drug use is not every day. Drug abuse is. Drug abuse happens when a person uses drugs every single day and cannot get through a day without drugs. If a person uses drugs only socially and does not need them to function, they might not have a drug addiction. Also, if a person does not need to use drugs in order to function, it might just be a case of drug use and not drug abuse.

Also, if a person is not using drugs by themselves, they might be only using drugs and not abusing drugs. Often drug abuse happens when a person is using drugs all by themselves and does not want to be around other people. They might drink alone or use drugs alone, and this is when it may be abuse instead of use.

You need to know yourself and know your body and know why you are doing certain things. If you are using drugs every once in a while for a particular ailment or illness you might not have a problem with drug abuse. If you are using drugs to have a good time or if you are finding yourself unable to get through any period of time without drug abuse, you probably have a drug addiction problem that should be addressed.

It is also important to note that the physical symptoms are going to play a factor. If you can get through a period of time without your drugs and you don’t have a physical need for them, you are not addicted. However, if your body feels like it actually needs them and you need to take them in order to feel better, then it is a case of drug abuse and not just drug use.

Some drugs can be used responsibly for treatment purposes and will not present any problems. However, it is important to remember that all drugs carry a potential for drug abuse and addiction, and therefore you should be sure to be completely educated about drugs before you even consider using them.
