Cocaine Detoxification

Cocaine is an addictive substance. The absence or stopping of cocaine abuse produces cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Common withdrawal symptoms from cocaine are anxiety, depression, and intense cravings. A cocaine detoxification program or treatment attempts to help an individual control the withdrawal symptoms and lesson the cravings.

Medical detoxification uses medicine and other medical treatments to control the detoxification process. There are many different types of medical detoxification treatments available. In some medical detoxifcation programs, other drugs are used to assist in the detoxification:

  • Antidepressants
  • Bezodiapines
  • Tranquilizers
  • Amatadine
  • Bromocriptine
  • Propanolol

The alternative to medical detoxification is a drug-free approach. In this approach, cocaine detoxification would be accomplished through diet, vitamins, minerals, sauna's, and exercise. Sometimes referred to as a holistic approach of sauna detox. This type of detox program is still supervised by medical personal but pharmaceuticals are not used.

Both methods are very effective in the treatment and control of withdrawal symptoms and intense cravings during cocaine detoxification. Once the individual has completed a detoxification program an addiction treatment program can be followed to address the mental and addiction issues.
